At the end of last year I penned a four-part serial for Film Ink magazine. Titled ‘How to Make A Movie In A Foreign Country’, I wrote it in advance of the release of my first feature film FAR FROM HERE this year. Confessional and educational, the articles provided a window into the process. A no-nonsense accounting of the good, the bad and the ugly to making independent movies on a shoestring budget.
The experience was not only a lot of fun and sincerely cathartic (find out why here) but also shed light on a side of my personality that I’d never given much time to. It helped me realize how much I love to help others, to make the journey a little easier for the next person.
A few months ago I began to put together the skeleton of a book. A guide to tapping into your inner artist. In the coming weeks and months I will be sharing some useful tips and moments of inspiration. (Special shout out to Austin Kleon and his book 'Show Your Work!' for sparking the lightbulb. I've been looking for an outlet for all of these thoughts.)
Please don't hesitate to comment or ask questions. As I work towards securing a home for my new book I'd love to hear from you and welcome any and all constructive feedback! : )
