Tribes

I came across this fascinating study on personal values during my PhD research this week.

Roy Morgan,  the founder of Australia’s pre-eminent polling company, coined ten value attributes that make-up the general population Down Under.

While the categories and their descriptors are captivating in and of itself, the groundbreaking study reveals a deeper truth about each and every one of us. Namely that we are all born into and governed by close-knit tribes that dictate our choices for some or all of our lives.

When we find ourselves chafing against our world view we do well to stop and listen. To put these concerns under the microscope and ask ourselves a simple question.

Are these core values in sync with the person that I am becoming?

Do they nurture the feelings that live within me?
